Berkshire pubs named among the best in the 2022 Good Beer Guide

Dozens of pubs across Berkshire have been named among the country’s best in an annual guidebook.

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA’s) 2022 guide has been published and aims to encourage punters to support their local pubs and breweries following the coronavirus pandemic.

The guide, which lists 4,500 pubs across the UK, is considered the definitive beer drinker’s guide to the best pints in the most picturesque and friendly pubs.

Despite being hampered by lockdowns and restrictions earlier this year, thousands of independent volunteers have worked together to compile this year’s entries, helping to identify important trends and themes at the local and national levels.

Their 49th guide revealed that the number of independent UK breweries rose to 1,902 in 2021 from 1,816 in 2020, the highest number recorded in the guide since publication began in 1974.

CAMRA National President Nik Antona said: “After the struggles of the last 18 months for the industry, it is great that the numbers from the Good Beer Guide show the resilience of pubs and brewers in the face of conflict – an increase in the number of breweries after their first plunged last year, as well as over 500 new pub entries.

“It’s great to see, especially with the news of the government’s latest budget, including the announcement of a new lower duty rate for draft beer and cider.

“However, the industry is still vulnerable in the aftermath of the Covid-19 lockdowns. Breweries still face issues related to the cost of goods, lack of trade tariff relief and government silence on reform of the industry. relief for small brewers.

“We call on the government to ensure that the new provisional duty rate applies to containers of 20 liters and above so that all of our small independent brewers can benefit from it.”
