Assuming summer temperatures ease, a hay walk on a chilly fall afternoon can be a favorite fun family activity. And maybe pick up a pumpkin along the way. So here are 18 Alabama hayrides for your family fun. We’ll even tell you a little bit about each location beyond the hay boardwalk.

When: Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Columbus Day (October 8) 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Attractions: A zebra-alpaca petting zoo, a giant box of corn for kids to wallow in, an inflatable park, pig races, a cotton field for picking and more.

How: $ 12.50 for all attractions except an additional $ 5 for hand pony rides. Seniors cost $ 10 and children under 2 are free. No personal checks accepted.

When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday in October.

Attractions: Children’s zoo, corn jump, hay maze, fishing, hay slide, milking a cow and more.

Attractions: 25 varieties of pumpkins from as small as your hand up to 200 pounds, backyard bounce, jump pad, baby goats, fall decorations to buy and more.

How: The farm has no admission fee, but the ride by tractor-drawn wagon to the pumpkin patch costs $ 3 per person. Pumpkins cost $ 2 each, and giant pumpkins sell for 45 cents a pound.

How: Children ages 3-18 are $ 9, adults $ 14, seniors, and the military are $ 12.

Or: Veterans Park on Valleydale Road in Hoover, parking at Spain Park High School with free shuttles to park.

When: October 25 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Attractions: A free one-day event hosted by the City of Hoover that features candy and giveaways, food vendors, face painting, balloon artists and more.

How: No entry fees.
