A bizarre Covid-19 warning video starring David Seaman has been openly mocked online after a council enlisted the help of the former England goalkeeper in encouraging people to get tested.

The Bracknell Forest Council posted the video to Facebook and Twitter, it’s unclear who wrote Seaman’s script for the confusing images.

A spokeswoman for the Bracknell Forest Council said: ‘Recently our data suggests that men in the borough, especially those under 40, have not shown up for tests, so we have sought to use a figure well-known and a positive role model that could deliver a message to target this audience.

“David Seaman has been used by another council in the same way and the Bracknell Forest Council is not the first to use or pay for a well-known figure to deliver such messages.

“The cost of the video was significantly cheaper than other forms of advertising – for example an advertisement in a local newspaper that would be at least double the price for half the reach.

“It’s not our usual line of marketing, but given the severity of the ongoing pandemic, it’s only right that we try as many avenues as possible.

“If only one person now follows the rules, gets tested and stops the spread, the message is worth it.”

The council’s social media post read, “There should be no doubt about it, if you have symptoms of COVID-19, get tested.

“Former England goalkeeper David Seaman knows the score.

“Don’t just keep going, get tested if you have symptoms, it could save a life.”

Back in August, Oldham council was mocked for using Inbetweeners star James Buckley – who played compulsive liar Jay Cartwright – to send a message about the coronavirus to residents.
