Sedalia police reports for August 17, 2021

On Monday evening, officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of South New England Drive in reference to a domestic assault. A man was arrested for hitting a family member in the face with a closed fist. The male subject was then nailed to the ground until the arrival of the police on the scene. Both people were treated for their injuries and Caleb M. Lujan, 36, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Was placed on a 24-hour hold. Third degree assault charges have been filed.


Sedalia Police were sent to Scott Joplin’s court over a suspicious vehicle report early Tuesday morning. After arriving at the scene, officers discovered that the occupants of the suspect vehicle had been taken to Scott Joplin court. A search for the driver via Dispatch showed that his driver’s license was suspended. A search of the vehicle revealed a glass pipe inside. Rodney Drake Ballew, 40, of Sedalia, was taken to Pettis County Jail. Ballew has been placed on a 24-hour standby pending charges of suspended driving and possession of drug paraphernalia.


Officers observed a vehicle traveling at high speed Monday evening. While behind the vehicle, officers noticed that it swerved between the tracks as it slowed down and stopped. A road check was carried out. After an investigation and the transmission of the driver’s information via Dispatch, Noy Kini, 44, of Sedalia, was arrested. Drunk driving and revocation driving charges are pending.


On Monday afternoon, Daniel W. Muntz reported to the police that someone had damaged the tail lights of his vehicle. The damage occurred between July 25 and July 26. The damage occurred in the 900 block of West 3rd Street.


Sedalia Police took a theft report from the 21 Street store, 3107 West Broadway on Monday afternoon. The complainant said two suspects entered the store and stole clothes from the store. The theft was estimated to be worth between $ 300 and $ 500.


On the evening of August 12, officers responded to the 1800 block of East Broadway Boulevard with a domestic assault report. A father and his stepson argued, which led to a physical altercation. The victim was transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center by the Pettis County Ambulance District. Jerry Wade Venable, 66, of Sedalia, was transported to Pettis County Jail where he was incarcerated and released pending charges against the state for the felony of 3rd degree domestic assault.


On Monday morning, officers were dispatched to the 1700 Block of 5th Street East to check on a subject’s welfare. Officers arrived and located the subject, who was then taken to Bothwell Regional Health Center for a mental health assessment.


Sedalia Police observed a black Chevrolet Camaro in the 16th Street and Southern Limit area on Monday afternoon. Officers checked the license plate, which turned out to be registered in the name of a Chrysler. Officers initiated a traffic stop and contacted the suspect, passing their information through Dispatch. Cordero V. Anderson, 20, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest and transported to Pettis County Jail pending charges of lack of proof of insurance, driving while on suspension and non-registration of a motor vehicle. Anderson was booked and released pending charges and a court date has been given.


On the afternoon of August 12, officers were dispatched to the North Ohio Avenue and West Pacific Street area in reference to a hit-and-run accident. A parked 2016 Dodge pickup was struck in the front by a flatbed trailer that separated from a gray Dodge Ram heading north. Video footage is being reviewed in the case.
