Wokingham plans to build a new 65-bed care home

Plans have been submitted for the construction of a new 65-bed nursing home following the demolition of the existing building.

The 1.25 acre site, located on School Hill in Wargrave, is currently occupied by The Mount Nursing Home, which provides care for 37 residents.

The claimant, Belgian estate agent Aedifica UK Limited, claims that the existing building is “inefficient” due to its layout and lack of provisions.

Aedifica also indicates that the building in its current form does not meet minimum contemporary construction standards, such as insulation, and “is reaching the end of its operational life”.

The proposed new two- and three-story building would double the number of rooms available, while providing common areas and 29 parking spaces, including two additional ones reserved for people with disabilities.

The applicant claims that the new development will address the shortcomings of the current care home, to include more common areas, better sanitary facilities by providing full wet rooms and new areas for staff.

Recreational areas outlined in the plan include a movie theater, quiet lounges, and communal lounges, as well as activity rooms and terraces.

If approved, it claims to be able to provide employment opportunities for the equivalent of 70 full-time staff.
